About Us

It's been over ten years since we met for the first time....!

They met during their studies at the university of Florida (Go Gators!) in Gainesville, Florida. John started his PhD in 2004, a year after Sophie, and having mutual friends, they were part of the same social circle. After a year of friendship they started dating, not knowing how far it was going to lead them! Two years later and their doctorates in hand, it was time for Sophie to find a job and for John to return to Colorado, his children and the United States Air Force Academy. Unfortunately Sophie found nothing in the US, and in need of work, she returned to Europe and was hired in Germany, For the next six years, they succeeded in their ongoing (very long distance) relationship, despite the jet lag, different continents, joyous reunions and (clearly less happy) separations at the airport.

During those six years, Sophie moved from Kleve to Dusseldorf, met lifelong friends, and had a very full and exciting life (especially in Dusseldorf), spent weekends with family, went out with friends and explored the city which she liked very much. For John, these six years were also very busy, between his position as an assistant professor in the chemistry department, 9 months in Afghanistan, then deputy department head. In March 2012, it was time for John to start a well deserved retirement, but not without work! After 3 wonderful months, the Academy had hired him back as a civilian professor, then as the Air Force Academy's deputy director of research, and then back to the chemistry department teaching organic chemistry.

In 2013, lightning finally struck, because during their holiday in Mallorca, John asked Sophie to marry him. That was the boost they needed to re-mix the cards! Sophie was getting bored in her work and was missing John so she requested a transfer
to the United States. Once approved, Sophie moved again in April 2014 back across the ocean. Five more months of waiting and John moved himself to New Jersey as well.

Finally together since August 2014, Sophie is working and John is enjoying life without stress and taking care of her! It's been a very interesting journey and now they are looking forward to their marriage in Las Vegas in June 2015. 

After that? 
Who knows!

Guaranteed they will be traveling and enjoying their time together.
